Sometimes you wonder why people watch sports. What all the fuss is about, the megabucks, the idolization of humans with near god-like physical abilities. What's competition for, really? Maybe it's just another way to feed a facet of our weirdly evil economy - we bet that we know exactly how well our strangers will do against other strangers. Sometimes I think that if everyone just switched off the part inside that triggers hype for sports, we'd all just go to sleep in the first quarter and wake up the next morning, perhaps with an prepaid sms or two telling us the score so we'd know whether or not we made good with our bets. What if everyone did that? Went to sleep and let little figures play on a field somewhere on a continent not our own, letting them imagine hordes of foreign eyes concentrating on their every step.
I'm just tired, I guess. It's like I'm that soccer player on the field (though yes I know I come nowhere near the worst of them) and I think that I'm so important, that people actually
care about my actions. Stupid. They just want to win their bets, so you'd better do what they want you to do.
