bostonian gastronomic delights

yeah, basically i've satisfied every single food craving i've had ever since stepping into penn state and leaving home... today we had taiwanese/peking food, tau huay with youtiao and xiaolongbao... i've been eating chinese food non-stop and the most money spent on this roadtrip's been foodfoodfood all the way. am currently staying in a brookline apartment in boston very near fenway park (where the boston redsox play) and it's a lazy sunday afternoon. the only downers to these past few days' stay is the weather (which is so chilly and damp it's like winter's immediate aftermath) and the fact that the theatre whodunit i wanted to catch (shear madness) suddenly cancelled its sunday evening performance. ah well. i'll get to watch it someday i hope.

i'm staying with joe's two cousins.. they're fantastic people and have been really wonderful hosts... bringing us all around boston, from cambridge harvard areas to feneuil market (where i bumped into sarah ma in this crowded crazy place and we just went bonkers when we saw each other) to MIT to boston downtown. i had the most heavenly white chocolate chip cookies (yeah man sharon you'd so totally go nuts over them) at this place called the boston chipyard... sigh. 4 bucks for a packet of freshly baked cookies is so totally worth it. and i satisfied my icecream cravings at two different places... ben and jerry's today and j.p. licks a day ago. it's all worth it man. haha... i even went dogwalking their dog siubo round the block... now i can say i've dogwalked in boston! so cool. heh. since joe and i are much younger than the two of them we're being very pampered and well-looked after... for once it's a pleasure not to have to worry about whether we'll get lost driving in such an unfamiliar place.

last night we went clubbing (!!!) i know! without using fake IDs even. it really pays to know people who've lived here for a long time because they know people who manage cool places like the trendiest bars and clubs in the city. shan't name the place i went to lest anyone gets in trouble. they played good music, the drinks were cheap cos' joe's cousins knew the bartender as well, and the night was basically fantastic. can't wait to grow up and get to know people like bartenders, bouncers and club managers myself. it'd be fun. but for now, i'm enjoying my youth, despite the knowledge that i'm still, americantechnically, underage.

oh yeah after montreal canada, we headed to quebec city in (duh) quebec. it was such a picturesque place but extremely expensive... kept spending money on good food.. i ate all the french food that i remembered and missed so much from my parisian holiday.. had soupe de poisson with rouille cheese and mussels cooked in three different ways... joe had rabbit stew which i tried as well and it tasted like sunflower seeds. hmmm. our desserts were tarte tatin with vanilla icecream and chocolate cake with melted dark chocolate inside... and they froze maple syrup into this glamorous-looking latticework that we bit off and crunched.. i took photographs so i'll show them to yall when i get back. i think that meal, at la cafe du monde, we spent more than 2 hours stuffing our faces. but it was good, real good. yums. the next day we had crepes for lunch.... so basically i've eaten whatever i've wanted to, the only thing i didn't manage to find was macaroons, like the ones they have in paul's boulangerie in france.

man. i keep talking about food. ohhhh.... and this place, the cheesecake factory... i think everyone who's been there keeps telling me to go there and eat, and i've finally done it, it was our first night's dinner (and the lunch before that was a good one at a thai restaurant.. got my fave tomyum soup heh) - the funniest thing is that i was too stuffed from my main course to order cheesecake! i think i've got to get some tomorrow. the avocado eggrolls are a must... and i had the famous factory meatloaf which lasted for two leftover lunches. it's nuts.. the portions are HUUUUUGE.

so much for aspiring to lose weight. bah.

august 2014. how time flies! i still feel like i have so much more growing up to do. :)

funny how life changes forever with the most miniscule of happenings. the startled meeting of two surreptitious glances in the mirror, the sudden dangled offering of purchase of free flight. the thin results slip, the inconspicuous admissions letter. the bad phone call, a moment's folly of taking advantage of someone. the last thoughtless caustic remark that pushes a strained friendship over the edge. i love/hate life. and i know it's a loan.
